Assita Kanko
She was born in Burkina Faso, West Africa and has been living in Belgium since 2004.
Before getting elected as a Member of European Parliament in 2019, she worked in business, served in international corporations and in boards of directors. MEP Kanko is member of the Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs Committee, the Delegation for the Relations with the United States and of the Foreign Affairs Committee.
In her works she focuses on legislation to tackle serious crime like money laundering and terrorism. MEP Kanko is a strong voice against violence against women, she works hard to help put an end to Female Genital Mutilation she survived at the age of 5. In June 2024 Assita Kanko was successfully re-elected Member of European Parliament and appointed coordinator of her political group in the Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs Committee (LIBE).
In 2024 MEP Kanko spearheaded the creation of the Intergroup on Police, marking a historic first in the European Union. The Police Intergroup is a cross-party working group in the European Parliament that aims at supporting law enforcement and
police cooperation against organized crime.
Assita is fluent in French, English and Dutch with basic knowledge of Spanish and German; she holds an MBA from Solvay Business School and she is the proud mother of a college student.
