Atty. John Henry D. Naga, a lawyer with a profound dedication to public service, is the Privacy Commissioner of the National Privacy Commission (NPC) of the Republic of the Philippines.

 

Upon his appointment in 2022, Privacy Commissioner Naga was determined to lead the NPC with integrity and passion to serve the Filipinos to the full extent of their mandate, resulting in the NPC’s transformation into a world-class leader, partner-regulator, and data subject rights defender.

 

Privacy Commissioner Naga led the digitization of the NPC’s platforms by launching the Data Breach Notification Management System and the NPC Registration System. Along with these is the introduction of the NPC Seal of Registration which is currently displayed in 197,805 establishments and online platforms across the Philippines, with 105 locations in 22 countries worldwide.

 

In the international data privacy scene, Privacy Commissioner Naga spearheaded the NPC’s appointment as the first-ever Fee Funded Secretariat of the Global Privacy Assembly, following a unanimous vote by its Executive Committee. Moreover, Privacy Commissioner Naga’s commitment to the protection of the personal data of Filipinos abroad was instrumental to the NPC’s execution of nine Memoranda of Understanding with different data privacy authorities from foreign jurisdictions.

 

With this, Privacy Commissioner Naga endeavored to empower data subjects and stakeholders through the NPC’s internationally recognized awareness campaigns, such as the Kabataang Digital, PSST! Program, Privacy in the Spotlight Webcast Episodes, DPA Briefing Sessions, and DP Council Roadshows.

 

As a reflection of Privacy Commissioner Naga’s devotion to compliance and adherence to international best practices within the NPC, these sterling achievements under his exceptional leadership have greatly contributed to the NPC’s efforts to protect every Filipino’s fundamental human right to privacy.
