Jelena Virant Burnik
Dr. Jelena Virant Burnik is the Information Commissioner of Slovenia, with more than 15 years of experience in data protection, including as a data protection supervisor. Before assuming her mandate as the head of the authority, she has been leading the area of cross border cooperation of the Information Commissioner and cooperation in the EDPB. She specialises in the issues of data protection in the ICT sectors, artificial intelligence and digitalisation processes, data transfers and certification, as well as raising awareness of personal data protection among minors. She completed her master’s degree at the London School of Economics and Political Science and obtained her doctoral degree at the University of Ljubljana, with a dissertation on the regulation of behavioural advertising from the perspective of the right to privacy and personal data protection.
