Head of the Legislative Projects Unit, Swiss Federal Office of Justice

Monique Cossali Sauvain is currently head of the Legislative Projects I Unit at the Swiss Federal office of Justice. She was in charge of drafting the new Swiss federal data protection law and is also dealing with international  issues in the field of data protection, such as future Swiss adequacy decisions. At the level of the Council of Europe, she was head of the Swiss delegation in the ad hoc Committee which modernized Convention 108 (CAHDATA) and is currently a member of the Swiss delegation in the Committee on Artificial Intelligence (CAI). She participated in the negotiations leading to a Swiss-US privacy shield and, in 2021 and 2022, was in the expert group which led to the adoption of the OECD Declaration on Government access to Personal Data Held by Private Sector Entities. She holds a law degree from the University of Neuchâtel.
